Horse Pens 40

If you want to hike, camp, climb rocks, learn a little history or just enjoy a day in one of Alabama's most scenic spots Horse Pens 40 is a destination for you. Located just off I-59 on Chandler Mountain near Steele, Horse Pens 40 has been the home for Native Americans, a hide-out for famous bandits, and early settlers and Civil War era citizens who wanted to stay out of the War. Today, Horse Pens 40 is known as one of the top spots for rock climbers who come to practice the art of "bouldering" which requires little in the way of equipment but lots of thrills for climbers from all over the world. A visit to Horse Pens 40 is part adventure, part relaxation, part living history and always lots of fun!
